Boomer is a 2-1/2 yr old black and tan German Shepherd, and he is a tall boy.    His previous owner let him run the show, so we sent him straight to our trainer...   "His house manners are really good so long as you're with him.   IF not seen, he may jump on the window sill or counter surf, as he is a very tall boy.  He is easily called off with a simple no or ahh...   He is kenneled when alone, and he likes his kennel.  He goes into his kennel easily and does well in it.  Usually kennel him overnight.  Loves his people, rather be where you are, but not so "velcro" as most Shepherds... he can certainly relax and sleep on the floor or on the couch, whichever you allow... He came to us with a flea infestation and dry skin, and is all good now.  We are getting him to put on some weight as well, as he is a bit thin.    He's guarded when new people enter the home or knock on the door, he has a big bark.  He does not bark if he sees people outside and is usually pretty aloof about people and dogs while on walks. He's a good natural protector but will need a firm handler to help him discriminate.  He's generally good with dogs but will growl if another dog is really getting in his space, which is reasonable.  He had a lot of time with older and younger children recently, and did well, though he didn't really have any spacial awareness and probably would have knocked him over if not watched. He's fully housebroken and hasn't had any accidents. He'll alert when he needs to go out.  He is great on leash, backs off whenever he feels any resistance, or gets a quick no or ahh that puts him in check, and he knows you are in charge.  Quick to bond with his new owner. When he has encountered cats, he's shown no interest but definitely not aggressive or prey driven...  We have seen some resource guarding with the other dogs over toys only. Nothing with the other dogs over food, space or people; just toys.   He backs off with only verbals commands, but a strong owner is a must, as he responds so well to a strong leader. He is afraid of the vet / has aggression at the vet; we've been muzzle training to help and he's fine with a muzzle now.   He will need a ‘no nonsense’ leader, due to his size.   Otherwise he's just the sweetest boy there is, goofy, playful, and chill... and very responsive." Boomer is a great boy !!   If you would like to meet Boomer, please complete an application !!
